J.J. Abrams talks Star Trek 3, endorses Rupert Wyatt for director

September 11, 2013 by admin

During a press launch for the home-entertainment release of Star Trek Into Darkness HitFix managed to grab a few words with director J.J. Abrams who confirmed that he’ll be handing the reins over to another filmmaker for Star Trek 3 while he concentrates on Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VII. However, he does plan to remain involved with the next film in his rebooted Trek universe, and seemingly endorsed Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt as his successor.

“He’s incredibly talented and we’d be lucky to have someone as talented as Rupert. But there are things we’re focusing on right now before the director, which is just sort of the fundamentals of where the story is gonna go. It’s too early to talk about details but there have been a lot of really exciting ideas about what comes next. I plan to be involved in the story and producing the film and I feel very blessed to be involved at all.”

Is Rupert Wyatt the right man to steer the U.S.S. Enterprise as it embarks on its five-year mission, or would you prefer to see someone else in the director’s chair? Let us know in the comments below…
