Star Wars: Episode VII bumps Warcraft back to 2016

November 27, 2013 by admin

Warner Bros. must have thought it would hit lucky nabbing a December 18th, 2015 release date for its upcoming Warcraft adaptation, slipping in nicely to the Holiday Fantasy slot currently occupied by Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy… until Lucasfilm announced that J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII would arrive that very same day.

So, facing competition from what is sure to be one of – if not the – biggest earners in a year packed with potential billion dollar blockbusters such as The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman vs. Superman, Jurassic World, Bond 24 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, WB has wisely decided to push back the release of Warcraft, with the film now set to arrive on March 11th 2016.

The Warcraft movie is being directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), with Vikings star Travis Fimmel set to appear and Colin Farrell (Total Recall), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Prisoners), Anson Mount (Straw Dogs) and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) all linked to roles.
