Independence Day 2 gets a new writer

May 29, 2014 by admin

Deadline is reporting that Carter Blanchard (Spy Hunter) is doing a re-write on the script for Independence Day 2.

The script was originally written by director Roland Emmerich with producer Dean Devlin but the duties were handed over to James Vanderbilt (White House Down) whose script has been the one used for some time. Now it seems the script is to be re-written by Blanchard, but there is no news on whether the plot has changed so presumably will still be about the children of the survivors of the original movie .

Blanchard currently has a few films in development including Mark Millar’s Kindergarten Heroes and he has sold a spec script called Glimmer to Paramount Pictures.

Emmerich has said that many of the original cast will be returning, but there is still no confirmation on Will Smith’s involvement who has been on and off the project since it was first announced. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are set to return. There has been no news on the return of other cast members like Randy Quaid, Mary McDonnell, Brent Spiner, James Duval and Vivica A. Fox.

Independence Day 2 is set for release July 1st 2016 and production is rumoured to be starting later on this year.
