Kickstarter project wants to remake classic horror flick Nosferatu

November 7, 2014 by admin

Sites like Kickstater and IndieGoGo have provided filmmakers to get their passion projects funded, but it’s not often that you see fan-funded projects looking to remake a movie.

David Lee Fisher is looking to fund this project which will be a “visual remix” of 1921’s classic horror Nosferatu. But while it may seem sanctimonious to remake a cornerstone of the horror genre (not that it’s stopped people before), Fisher does have some credit to his name. This year he was the man behind the restoration of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari for which he won Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography and Audience Choice awards at the Screamfest Film Festival. You can read our review of that here.

“By combining imagery from the original horror classic with cutting edge filmmaking technology, we will resurrect the screen’s first and most monstrous vampire back from the grave!”

Nosferatu: The Vampire Lives will see Doug Jones take on the role of Count Orlock. Jones has played multiple monsters over the years including Abe Sapien in Hellboy, The Gentlemen in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Silver Surfer in 4: The Rise of the Silver Surfer.

“Our goal is to produce a feature-length, faithful homage to this classic masterpiece through use of an updated story structure, plot pacing, visual effects, and importantly sound and music. We believe this “fresh take on an old tale” will bring something new to devoted fans, and excite an entire new generation of audiences as well.

Our team has a lot of experience creating a movie like this, as we’ve already done it before on our previous film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. For that project we created a custom technique never before seen in the history of filmmaking. By scanning a vintage print, we were able to shoot our actors on green-screen, then layer them into digital sets recreated from the original film’s imagery.”

You can donate to the project here.
