Justice League depends on Man of Steel success

January 29, 2013 by admin

No pressure on Zack Snyder, but it seems that the success of the upcoming Man of Steel could have a major effect on Warner Bros. pushing forward with Justice League for the already crowded summer of 2015.

There has been a few changes in positions at the WB with Kevin Tsuijhara announced recently as the new CEO, passing over the more obvious choice of Jeff Robinov. However, Variety are reporting that Robinov may be looking to move to another studio entirely (the most common rumour being the role of Universal’s President if Ron Meyer leaves). This affects the cinematic DC Universe as he was the one who has been pushing for more cinema outings for the DC licenses.

Variety also looks at how Warner Bros. is holding back on moving forward with Justice League to see how well Man of Steel performs at the box office. Should the film meet the same fate as 2011s Green Lantern, it’s possible that Justice League can join films like Superman Lives and George Miller’s previous Justice League attempt as a ‘what could have been’. It notes that other than Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies, Warner has not had much success with their other DC franchises and if Man of Steel under performs it’s unlikely we’ll see a 2015 Justice League release.

In the meantime, Will Beall (Gangster Squad) has been hired to write the script for Justice League, which has yet to announce a director.
