Todd McFarlane wants to shoot Spawn reboot next year

August 27, 2013 by admin

Since Spawn opened back in 1997 there have been many talks about a potential sequel. Comic book creator Todd McFarlane has wanted to make another Spawn film for quite some time now. There was talk of a sequel, then talk of a reboot, but we haven’t heard much in the last few years.

Now it seems that McFarlane wants to get out another film as soon as possible. McFarlane has said that he hopes to have a script finished by the end of the year and plans to start filming in 2014. McFarlane spoke with The Gate about his concerns with the film and what approach he wants to take this time around…

“The reality is I’ve got a lot of pressure. They want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So that’s the goal right now. The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavors off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it. Everybody at my company is now going, ‘We’ve got to find Todd the time to finish all this. I think it’s a quick shoot. It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects, it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one. I’ve got so many people phoning now that I’ve got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year.”

Academy Award winning actor Jamie Foxx (Ray, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) said at Comic-Con this year that he is “aggressively pursuing” the role of Spawn. Todd McFarlane also told The Gate about being approached by Academy Award winning and/or nominated actors who were interested in the role. “We’ve had some big names, like who you’re mentioning, come to the office and go we want to be in it. Sometimes they give me their pitch, and I give them my pitch, and I go we can get in it, here’s how it goes. And so those types of actors, Academy Award guys, they’re going,  ‘As soon as that script’s done, we’re going.’ So once we get this thing done, we’ll get it off the ground with some big names.”

So what do you think about a new Spawn film, and who would you like to see as the lead?
