Hugh Jackman talks X-Men: Days of Future Past and Bryan Singer

September 9, 2013 by admin

The dust may have just settled on his latest solo outing The Wolverine, but Hugh Jackman will be donning the adamantium claws once more in just under nine months time as he reunites with the majority of the cast from the previous X-Men films for Bryan Singer’s eagerly-awaited sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. Access Hollywood caught up with the actor at the Toronto International Film Festival to discuss his new film Prisoners, but the conversation soon shifted to the upcoming mutant epic, with Jackman stating, “I keep saying it’s like two movies in one but the size of it, it’s like three in one! [It’s] going to blow people away because the story – Bryan Singer is going to be the first director to make increasingly better movies in a franchise, I’m not sure if there’s anyone else that’s done it.”

Jackman then went on to speak about Singer’s influence on the superhero genre: “Few people credit Bryan for what he deserves credit for, which is really inventing that genre. There wasn’t really a superhero genre before X-Men came out. Funny enough, I remember catching a plane while we were promoting The Prestige with Christopher Nolan [who] said to me that he’d always had Batman in his mind. Even way back before 2000, he had the version of Batman that he ended up making in his head. He said, ‘when I went into the cinema and saw X-Men, I said damn, that’s my idea.’ The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what’s going to hook people and make them care. That’s what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that.”

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release on May 23rd 2014, with a cast that also includes X-veterans Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James McAvoy (Young Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Young Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Halle Berry (Storm), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) and Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), in addition to franchise newcomers Evan Peters (American Horror Story) as Quicksilver, Booboo Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) as Warpath, Omar Sy (The Intouchables) as Bishop, Fan Binbing (Iron Man 3) as Blink, Adam Canto (The Following) as Sunspot, and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as Bolivar Trask.
