While there’s been plenty of speculation about Batman vs. Superman, we’ve heard very little in the way of comments from the cast and crew of the upcoming Man of Steel sequel over the past couple of months, but director Zack Snyder has offered up a few comments during a promotional interview for 300: Rise of an Empire – specifically what Ben Affleck is set to bring to the table as The Dark Knight.
“Ben brings an interesting counterweight to the performance of Henry Cavill’s Superman,” Snyder tells Popcorn Magazine (via ComicBookTherapy). “[Affleck] has the experience necessary to paint the picture of an older and more [advanced] man than Clark Kent, [one] who bears the scars of a seasoned vigilante while [simultaneously] retaining the charm that Bruce Wayne deploys when present in the world.”
Meanwhile, Snyder also responded to a question about whether Batman vs. Superman is set to deliver an adaptation of Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, with Snyder stating that it won’t be a direct adaptation, “but the comic book will influence the history of Batman vs. Superman, on which David S. Goyer and myself will work.”
Batman vs. Superman is set for release in May 2016 with a cast that also includes Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), and Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth).
