Simon Kinberg confirms Quicksilver for X-Men: Apocalypse

May 20, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Bryan Singer and 20th Century Fox caused quite the controversy last year when it was revealed that the character of Quicksilver would feature in X-Men: Days of Future Past, with the announcement coming hot on the heels of the news that Marvel Studios had added the speedster and his sister Scarlet Witch to the roster of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron. A negative reaction to the first look at Evan Peters’ (American Horror Story) take on the character did little to stem the backlash and now writer-producer Simon Kinberg has weighed in with his thoughts on the decision to include the character.

“It wasn’t something we anticipated,” Kinberg tells Total Film, “because we didn’t know they were using him in the Avengers movie. We only found that out…it got publicized, I think, weeks after we made the decision that we had done it, and then after that, even, it was a little while before the controversy started in terms of them using him too.”

Kinberg then went on to reveal that they considered using Scarlet Witch, as well as confirming that Peters’ Quicksilver will return for X-Men: Apocalypse: “We talked about bringing Scarlet Witch into the mix for [X-Men: Days of Future Past]. “Actually, there was a little scene that we shot that we ended up cutting out of the movie that alluded to her. But it was sort of an interstitial scene that didn’t push the movie forward, so it ended up being cut…But [Quicksilver] would absolutely be back for the next X-Men movie.”

So, it seems we can now add Evan Peters to the growing list of characters in X-Men: Apocalypse, which will see returning stars James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magento), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and Nicholas Hoult (Beast) joined by Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) as Gambit. Apocalypse is set to hit on May 27th 2016, while X-Men: Days of Future Past hits this Thursday in the UK and Friday in the States (read our review here).
