A Rush Hour TV series is in the works

October 1, 2014 by James Garcia

While Rush Hour 4 may never see the light of day, the franchise may in fact find new life on the small screen. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence and co-producer Blake McCormick are writing a Rush Hour TV series, with series director Brett Ratner on board as executive producer.

There is no network deal in place yet, but the series is expected to follow the same formula as the films, which saw a by-the-books police officer from Hong Kong travel to Los Angeles, where he’s forced to team up with a cocky African-American LAPD officer.

Unlike some films that Hollywood studios try to transform into television series, Rush Hour is a franchise that could work quite well on TV. It lends itself well to the popular police procedural format, and features two leads who are at odds with one another but are forced to work together despite their differences to solve crimes.

Now, it’s just up to the casting department to find two actors to fit the large shoes left by Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.
