Bruce Campbell to star as Ash in Evil Dead TV show; Sam Raimi to direct

November 10, 2014 by admin

It has been banded around back and forth for a while now, but it looks like we’re getting the return to the original Evil Dead. Bruce Campbell has said in the past that he and Sam Raimi were working on another Army of Darkness and then subsequently denied it, but we now have confirmation that the pair will reunite for an Evil Dead TV show called Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.

“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” Campbell said.

“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” Raimi adds. “Bruce, Rob [Tapert], and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Ash vs. Evil Dead will air on Starz in 2015 for 10 episodes. Raimi will write and direct the first episode with Rob Tapert producing.

Bruce Campbell first featured as Ash in Raimi’s The Evil Dead in 1981 and then reprised the role for Evil Dead 2 (which featured in our Top 10 Horror Movies Ever Made) and Army of Darkness. He also provided his voice for the Evil Dead video games and featured in all three of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies.
