Sony rumored to be making an Aunt May film without Spider-Man

November 11, 2014 by Robert Kojder

Latino Review has an exclusive – that I am currently praying to any and every deity out there is false – that Sony is moving ahead with plans of creating a film centered on Aunt May… and without Spider-Man.

The reason they are doing it is because if Sony doesn’t continue to make use of the Spider-Man film license, then they will have to return the property to Marvel. The problem that Sony is facing is that after the absolute disaster that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the company really doesn’t know how they want to push forward. There were rumors of a Sinister Six film that sounded awesome, but that was until we saw the steaming pile of crap that was supposed to lead into it. Apparently, their last-ditch effort to hold onto the license is to tell an origin story about Aunt May as a teenager and her surprise  unplanned pregnancy with Peter Parker and secrecy that she is his mother.

Don’t believe me? The story is actually based on a Mark Millar penned mini-series called Trouble that was intended to be Peter’s new origin story. which details the above but apparently in an espionage setting. Either way, this is something that readers panned and didn’t even like, so why is it getting an adaptation? Sony must be extremely desperate to hold onto the Spider-Man license.

Furthermore, when Marvel is announcing insane lineups of blockbusters that go all the way through 2019, and DC is announcing bombshell casting decisions like Jared Leto as The Joker and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in a Suicide Squad movie, who in the hell on any planet wants to see an origin story about Aunt/Mother May? Someone please scrap this concept immediately.
