“The Marvel Universe as you know it is done” – Marvel rebooting with Secret Wars

January 20, 2015 by Gary Collinson

A few months back, Marvel Entertainment released a series of Summer 2015 teasers, harking back to numerous classic tales from the comic book publisher’s illustrious past.

This led many to assume that a reboot of sorts was in the pipeline, and sure enough Marvel has confirmed that the upcoming Secret Wars event will lead to a complete revamp of the Marvel Universe.

The first issue of Secret Wars will feature the destruction of the 616 and Ultimate universes, leaving the respective characters in a ‘Battleworld’ is described as a “melting world from which the new Marvel Universe will be fermented.”

“This is putting an end cap on decades of stories,” states editor-in-chief Axel Alonso with regards to the eight-part series. “This is a place where we’ll be putting new pieces on the board and taking old pieces off. You’ll be shocked at the chances we’re willing to take.”

Hammering home the point that Secret Wars will see the publisher heading in a new direction, executive editor Tom Brevoort added that: “The Marvel Universe as you know it is done.”

How do you feel about this huge announcement? Are you happy that Marvel is rebooted its universe, or is this a big mistake for the comic book giant? Let us know your thoughts…
