Owain Yeoman cast as Vartox in Supergirl

March 20, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Kara Zor-El won’t be the only superhero appearing in CBS’ upcoming DC series Supergirl, with io9 reporting that Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist) has signed on to play the character of Sean Connery lookalike Vartox, a character who made his first appearance in Superman #281 back in 1974.

Based on the DC Comics character, the drama tells the story of Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton, but escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin Superman. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Supergirl sees Melissa Benoist (Whiplash) joined in the cast by Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alexandra Danvers, Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El, David Harewood (Selfie) as Hank Henshaw, Mechad Brooks (Necessary Roughness) as Jimmy Olsen, Jeremy Jordan (The Last Five Years) as Winslow Schott, Faran Tahir (Iron Man) as The Commander and Dean Cain (Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Helen Slater (Supergirl) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
