Nikolaj Arcel in talks to direct The Dark Tower

June 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in April it was announced that the long-gestating adaptation of Stephen King’s epic fantasy series The Dark Tower from Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman and Brian Grazer had been resurrected by Sony and Media Rights Capital, and now it looks like a director may have been found.

According to Deadline, Nikolaj Arcel is in talks to rewrite and direct the first in what is hoped to be a series of movies. Arcel previously co-wrote the screenplay for the original verison of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as well as directing the acclaimed A Royal Affair.

The site reports that Sony has “a lean mean script that is primarily based on the first book in the series, The Gunslinger, establishing the relationship between Roland and young protege Jake Chambers.” It has been written by Goldsman, along with Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

The Dark Tower was initially conceived as a series of movies and television productions, and has passed through the doors of both Universal and Warner Bros. en route to Sony.
