The legendary actor Sir Christopher Lee has sadly passed away at the age of 93.
Lee is reported to have passed on at 8:30am on Sunday morning at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. He had been under medical attention for respiratory problems and heart failure over the past couple of months. The news was not released to the public until this time as his wife desired time to tell the family first. Lee was married to his partner Gitte Lee for 54 years, and the couple had a daughter together.
Born on May 27 1922, Lee was most famous for his portrayals of Count Dracula, Count Dooku (Star Wars), Francisco Scaramanga (The Man with the Golden Gun) and Saruman in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was one of the most highly regarded actors of the past century as well as one of the highest grossing. In his career, Sir Lee amassed a remarkable 282 acting credits in 69 years.
Lee was a master of several arts outside of his glittering acting career, most notably his love of music. His deep and most powerful voice was also a key aspect of his acting performances, and he put it to use in recording multiple musical pieces. He released several albums, including a pair of Christmas albums and the heavy metal records, Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross in 2010 and Charlemagne: The Omens of Death just two years ago.
Amongst many other honours, Lee was awarded a knighthood in 2009, for his outstanding dedication to acting and charity work.
Sir Lee had completed work on the upcoming fantasy picture Angels in Notting Hill, whilst he was also set to feature in The 11th Opposite, a 9/11 drama with Uma Thurman. However it is believed that the film was set to begin production before the end of the year.
Sir Christopher Lee is a man and a talent that will be missed by the world over. His life may have been lost, but it was a rock-and-roll time, lived to the full.
