Hayley Atwell talks fan-theories that Peggy Carter is Tony Stark’s mother

July 11, 2015 by Luke Owen

Originally published July 11, 2015. Updated April 13, 2018.

One of the wilder fan theories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe fanbase is that Peggy Carter is, in fact, the mother of Tony Stark due to her relationship with Howard Stark. It would certainly be a unique reason for Iron Man and Captain America to turn into enemies for Captain America: Civil War…

In an interview with our friends at HeyUGuys, Hayely Atwell talks about this theory, as well as other avenues they could go down for Peggy’s love life.

“I think it would be quite… it would undermine the relationship she has with Captain America,” the actress said. “And I also think she doesn’t trust Howard in that respect, so she would be lowering her standards if she ended up with Howard. But then it could blossom into a perfect romance! Anything is possible. I think people on Twitter are keen on Angie and Peggy being together, which I think is a fantastically original idea. I also know from the comics that Peggy had the first interracial kiss, so that’s something we could possibly explore. So there’s plenty of opportunities for romance in Peggy’s life.”

Check out the rest of the video below, where Hayley Atwell also discusses Agent Carter, Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War.
