Toy Review – Darth Vader Ceramic Mug and Star Wars 3D Mood Lights

July 30, 2015 by Luke Owen

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens just around the corner, it’s time to look at some of the cool gadgets and accessories you can stock your house with based on a galaxy far, far away. Find more at Hawkin’s Bazaar.

Star Wars 3D Mood Lights – Stormtrooper and Darth Vader

These cool looking 3D Mood Lights are a perfect little accessory to have round the house. They might not be very bright, but they certainly look cool. Let’s look at each one individually.

Stormtrooper Star Wars 3D Mood Light

The Stormtrooper 3D Mood Light is a really well-crafted mould of the classic helmet, and shines a bright white light when turned on. The piece looks cool in the day time, but actually looks even better when it’s turned on in the dark (that’s what she said). The white light from the helmet illuminates a good amount of brightness, but don’t expect to use it as a lamp or anything like that. The product requires 3xAAA batteries, which are not included.

You can purchase this Mood Light here.

Darth Vader Star Wars 3D Mood Light

The Darth Vader one, by comparison, isn’t quite as good. Although the mould is exceptional and the detail is awesome, the light effect isn’t that great. Darth’s eyes and mouth glow red, but it doesn’t really light up a whole lot. Rather than be a Mood Light, it ends up being more like a torch. It’s still cool, but it’s not quite as a cool as the Stormtrooper one. The product requires 3xAAA batteries, which are not included.

You can purchase this Mood Light here.

Darth Vader Ceramic Mug

Who doesn’t love a good cup of tea? And what better way to drink your tea (or coffee, if you prefer) than out of the head of Darth Vader. Like a lot of 3D mugs, this Darth Vader one is a great mould of the classic villain from the Star Wars Universe, and the detail is really great. Better still, it holds a massive amount of tea – nearly two cups worth! Thankfully, it comes with a “head” so you can keep your tea warm when you’re not drinking it. As with all 3D mugs like this, the shape of it can cause some issues. It’s near impossible to stir round due to the contours of the mould, creating a very loud sound when your spoon makes contact with them. Not a deal breaker, as it’s impossible not to smile when you’re drinking from the helmet of the baddest dude in the galaxy.

You can purchase this ceramic mug here.

Of the three purchases, I’d recommend the Stormtrooper Mood Light and the Darth Vader ceramic mug. The Darth Vader Mood Light is cool, but the lack of light (even for mood lighting) knocks it down a couple of levels of “cool”. Still, for the price you pay for them (£15 a light), you can’t argue.
