J.J. Abrams reveals Star Wars: The Force Awakens runtime

We’ve been absolutely inundated with Star Wars news these past few days, so much so that one little nugget from D23 has slipped under our radar.

According to Comic Book, director J.J. Abrams has revealed that December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens will run for 2 hours and 4 minutes – exactly the same length of time as Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.

For comparison, here’s how the rest of the saga stacks up:

– Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace Runtime: 136 min
– Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones Runtime: 142 min
– Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith Runtime: 140 min
– Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope Runtime: 121 min
– Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back Runtime: 124 min
– Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” Runtime: 134 min

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Ken Leung (Lost), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day), Simon Pegg (Star Trek) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
