Mark Ruffalo says a solo Hulk movie “feels even further away”

November 2, 2015 by admin

Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as the hulking green goliath, The Hulk, in Thor: Ragnarok before teaming up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes again for Avengers: Infinity War Pars 1 & 2. Rumours have been around for many years that he’d be getting his own solo outing just like his pals Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, but it’s never been announced. And according to Ruffalo, it looks like we never will see a Hulk solo movie.

“[It] feels even further away,” the actor admitted to USA Today. “It’s not Marvel’s property, it’s Universal’s property. I don’t know. It seems really problematic”.

While Disney hold the rights to use the Hulk character through their ownership of Marvel, Universal own the rights to distribute the movie – which means both sides would need to agree on the equal terms so everyone makes money. This is also the reason why we’ve not seen a Namor movie, as Universal also own the distribution rights to that character.

Thor: Ragnarok is to be directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that so far includes Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif). The film is set for release on November 3rd 2017.
