Daredevil season 2 will feature a scene like the hallway fight, but “on crack”

January 22, 2016 by Justin Cook

Marvel’s Daredevil drew praise from critics for a number of reasons when it premiered on Netflix last April, but one aspect of the show that nearly all viewers singled out was its extremely well-choreographed fight scenes; in particular, the hallway fight scene, from the show’s second episode “Cut Man,” was hailed as one of the best television scenes of 2015. The scene shows Charlie Cox’s titular superhero as he takes down a hallway full of child traffickers, and most impressively, the entire sequence is filmed in one continuous shot. See it down below…

Not only did the scene establish the character of Daredevil as the skilled fighter he is, but it also was a great example of how collaboration behind the scenes can result in a breathtaking on-screen product. Now, Cox has made a bold claim that the upcoming second season of the show will feature a similar fight scene that will somehow top the one that came before it.

When asked at the TCA Winter Press Tour about the hallway fight scene and fight scenes in general in season 2, Cox answered, “In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights. There is one in particular that I’m really excited about because it’s kind of like an homage to that scene, but it’s almost like that scene on crack.”

Additionally, Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle/The Punisher, offered up his two cents about why things will be kicked up a notch in the new season, “I think once you introduce a character like Frank Castle, once you introduce a character like Elektra, the stakes are raised a little bit in terms of the fighting, all of the sudden you’re talking about weapons. Different questions are being brought up. I think what is the genius of Phil Silvera, the fight coordinator and stunt coordinator who choreographs these fights, is the fights are all character-driven and the fights tell a story. It’s not just to look pretty or to look cool.”

The second season of Daredevil will hit Netflix on March 18th and features a cast that includes Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Matt Gerald (Melvin Potter), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Elodie Yung (Elektra), Scott Glen (Stick) and Stephen Rider (Blake Tower).
