Death Note producer gives an update on the adaptation, confirms R-rating

February 26, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Director Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) is currently hard at work developing Warner Bros.’ upcoming anime adaptation Death Note, and producer Roy Lee has given an update on its progress during an interview with Collider, as well as confirming that it will be rated-R.

“[Wingard] is currently waiting for us to officially greenlight the movie, but we have a cast in place,” states Lee. “I think it’s been reported but I don’t remember yet, I’d have to check the site, so I don’t want to say anything yet. But it’s a movie we’re planning on making this year.”

“It’s definitely for adults,” he continues. “It is zero chance it will be below an R-rating. [It] will be one of the first manga adaptations that feels very grounded but still has fantastical elements.”

Death Note has Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) and Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) attached to star.
