Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool’s place in the X-Men timeline, and the chances of an X-Force movie

February 9, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Deadpool set to open in the UK tomorrow and in the States on Friday, Ryan Reynolds is out on the press tour for the film, and during an interview with Filmstarts, the actor was asked about trivia on IMDB claiming that the film’s incarnation of the Merc with a Mouth differs from X-Men Origins: Wolverine due to the reset of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

“I really don’t think this has anything to do with Days of Future Past or its timeline,” replied Reynolds. “If it were Deadpool, he could tell Days of Future Past to take its timeline and go fuck itself. We make fun of the timelines in the movie but no, Deadpool is not affected by that at all. Deadpool I think is just his own thing, his own universe and anytime the other X-Men interact with Deadpool in his universe they do so at their own risk and peril.”

Reynolds then went on to discuss the future of the character, stating that: “In the future if we’re doing a bunch of more Deadpool movies we’re gonna really explore the X-Men a lot, and maybe X-Force. X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in.”

X-Force was announced way back in 2013 before Deadpool got the green light, with Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) penning the script, but seemed to have been put on hold once Fox decided to pull the trigger on a Deadpool movie. Here’s some concept art from that project showing Cable and the team (minus Deadpool)…

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is set for release on February 10th in the UK and February 12th in the States and sees Ryan Reynolds reprising the role of the Merc with a Mouth alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Stefan Kapicic (24) as Colossus, Leslie Uggams (Roots) as Blind Al and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
