Joss Whedon rumoured to direct Supergirl / The Flash musical crossover

August 13, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Not content with a big four-way crossover, The CW has announced that The Flash and Supergirl will be crossing paths once again this season for a special two-parter, which is set to feature a musical element.

The news was announced at The CW’s Television Critics Association panel, and is expected to occur around the 13th episode of the DC shows’ upcoming seasons, with former Glee co-stars Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist once again flexing their singing voices on screen.

Furthermore, The Hashtag Show is reporting that Joss Whedon (The Avengers) is being lined up to direct the episode, which will reportedly see the two heroes going up against the Batman: The Brave and the Bold villain the Music Meister, and that Neil Patrick Harris may reprise the role, having voiced the character in the animated series.

The report follows comments from Gustin at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, where he said he’d like to see Whedon helming an episode of The Flash. However, while The Hashtag Show were on the money with their previous scoop about Finn Jones portraying Iron Fist, they’ve also been very wide of the mark on several occasions, such as their Captain America: Civil War reports, so chalk Whedon’s involvement down as a rumour until we hear something more concrete.
