Comic Book Review – Dexter #5

November 23, 2013 by admin

Robb Ghag reviews Dexter #5…

“CONTINUING THE ALL-NEW DEXTER ADVENTURE, WRITTEN BY HIS CREATOR JEFF LINDSAY! • Dexter Morgan isn’t just Miami’s #1 forensic blood splatter expert, he’s also a serial killer who targets other serial killers! • Has Dexter met his match and did he help create him? • The bodies are piling up—and Dexter might be next!”

The first Dexter comic story arc comes to a conclusion, and I have to say it was well worth the slow start, to the thrilling finale.

With the arch villain Steve Gonzalez finally found out, Dexter and his dark passenger were set up perfectly for their showdown. Jeff Lindsay throws a few wrenches into the works though, making the story feel somewhat more realistic, and definitely prolonging the ultimate confrontation.

The artwork works perfectly, as we transition from the under belly of Miami to across the world to South America, and Dalibor Talajic does an exceptional job filling in the details.

To any Dexter fan feeling the withdrawal from the conclusion of the television series, I strongly recommend giving this story a read. If you’ve been following from issue #1, then I can say with some confidence you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well the ends are tied up here.

Finally the cover; understated, but looking incredibly familiar, Michael Del Mundo does a great job capturing Dexter’s essence (minus the eyes), it has a familiar look, especially the smile.

This book delivered in spades, and I will definitely be on board when the next storyline comes up in February of 2014 – “Dexter Down Under”.
