Warner Bros. setting up Dragonriders of Pern franchise

July 30, 2014 by Gary Collinson

With The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies bringing the curtain down on Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth saga, Warner Bros. is looking to fill the fantasy void by snapping up the rights to the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Dragonriders of Pern book series.

Dragonriders of Pern is set on a pre-industrial planet which is protected from Thread – deadly spores from a rogue planet that consume everything in their path – by giant, telepathic dragons and their riders. The saga was originally created by Anne McCaffrey back in 1968, and has since spanned 22 novels and two volumes of short stories.
