10 Awful Movies That Failed To Ride Harry Potter’s Success

This is German filmed and has quite a lot of potential. It actually felt like a dark retelling of Disney’s Sorceror’s Apprentice. Throw in a Harry Potter concept with a Wizarding school, however in this case it would be closer to Malfoy’s story. where this films’ antagonist sacrifices one of his apprentices each year to maintain his immortality. The film itself is not an unworthy viewing. However, you will constantly find yourself yelling at the screen when you catch a blatant use of a Rowling archetype mixed in with a Rowling-style character, wrapped in a Disney reference to the Sorceror and his Apprentice wondering why the hell you’re watching this film.

Some of the performances are interesting but the awkward attempt by the actor playing the Sorceror, Christian Redl, is just a bit annoying to watch and I have to wonder where the actor channeled some of his angst and crotchety attitude. At one point I’d venture a guess that my memory decided to wander to the character Argyle Wallace, played by Brian Cox, in Braveheart. However, that role was short and played with solemnity and dignity. Here the character just tries to hard and the role ends up becoming cheesy and boring to watch. Villains make the movie stronger by forcing the hero to become something great. Here it was just poorly done.
