Jessica Chastain wants a superhero role, could she be in line for Captain Marvel?

November 4, 2014 by Thomas Roach

In an interview with MTV whilst promoting Interstellar the actress spoke about roles in superhero movies.

“We’ve talked about aligning our forces in the future,” Chastain says. “And here’s the thing with me… If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?”

Chastain was originally up for the role of Maya Hansen in Iron Man 3 but turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. The role went to Rebecca Hall. It seems though now that Jessica Chastain is more set on playing a superhero or villain and would not want to play the damsel in distress.

“Whatever it is, I want a fight scene,” Chastain continues. “I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass. There was one thing, I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming… And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.’ ”

Chastain is then directly asked about Marvel’s upcoming film Captain Marvel and almost hints that she has been approached for the role.

“Yes, I do know about that, listen, that’s 2018. We don’t know where we’ll be, maybe I’ll give up acting by then.”

Kevin Feige has said that rumours about which actresses are being considered will pop up. Chastain has nearly worked with Marvel in the past and has had her name thrown around by fans so it is likely that the actress is being considered. However, she has since taken to Twitter to deny that she’s had talks about Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is set for release July 26th, 2018.

Do you think Jessica Chastain would suit the role of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel? Let us know…
