Felicity Jones says there are “no plans” for her to play Black Cat

January 18, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Prior to the release of last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it looked like Sony had set out its stall for the future of the Spidey franchise, with the Marc Webb-directed sequel paving the way for The Sinister Six, Venom, a female-led spin-off, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4.

One of the many plot threads in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 pointed towards the introduction of the Black Cat, with Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) portraying the character of Felicia Hardy. Many assumed this would eventually lead to Jones donning the catsuit in a one of those future movies, but it seems that may not be the case after all…

“Well, [Black Cat] is such a great character in the comics,” Jones tells Clevver Movies when asked about a potential return as Felicia in the Spider-Man movie universe. “I mean, if that happened, that would be lovely. There are no plans, but I’d love to play her. She’s a fantastic, awesome female characters.”

Given the negative reception the second movie in the rebooted series and the information that leaked during the Sony hack, the fact that there are no plans for Black Cat at present won’t come as much of a surprise, as it seems that the studio is at a complete loss over how to proceed with the franchise.
