Sundance London 2015 cancelled

January 16, 2015 by admin

Sad news for UK film fans – Sundance London 2015 has been cancelled.

Starting in 2009, Sundance London was the off-shoot to the Sundance Film Festival and housed, what many thought to be, “the best of Sundance”. Last year saw UK premieres of movies like Frank, The Trip to Italy and Obvious Child.

At the time of writing, no reason has been given for its cancellation.

A statement read, “we loved connecting with the vibrant community of filmmakers and audiences in the UK, and following a successful three years with The O2, we continue to explore our options for Sundance London.”

“Though we are not confirmed to host public events in London this year, we hope to be able to return very soon.”

An O2 spokesperson added, “We loved having Sundance here and we’d be glad to have them back.”

Many have speculated that reasons for its cancellation include its location, which some believe difficult to get to, and its lack of attendance.

“I’ve been to public screenings at Sundance London for the past few years”, said Flickering Myth deputy editor Luke Owen. “And some screenings, like Peaches Does Herself, were virtually empty. Even bigger films like The Kings of Summer were half-empty.”

To pay homage to Sundance London, here are the two previous year podcasts:
