New Zealand horror comedy Housebound is getting remade, thanks to Peter Jackson

February 12, 2015 by admin

“You can’t punch ectoplasm…”

The brilliantly funny and twisted New Zealand horror comedy Housebound has found a huge fan in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson, so much so that he’s brought the film to the attention of New Line Cinemas who intend to remake it.

Even though the film isn’t even a year old, New Line are looking to do an American remake of the movie with original director Gerald Johnstone in a producing role.

Housebound tells the story of a rebellious young woman who is forced to return to her childhood home thanks to a forced detention program.  Living with her small-town-minded mother and stepfather seems like a fate worse than death, until she begins to suspect that something malevolent may be in house as well.

“The movie is scary but has comedy woven in,” said New Line senior executive vice president Carolyn Blackwood. “It’s very difficult do to well but he pulled it off.”

No word yet on directors or cast.

So, an English-language of a movie that’s less than a year old and already in the English language? Hmmm.
