The Joker to debut in Gotham this season

February 5, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Prior to the premiere of Gotham, showrunner Bruno Heller suggested that we’d have a lengthy wait on our hands before we saw the introduction of the Clown Prince of Crime, but it seems those plans have changed as Heller has now revealed that The Joker could be making his debut in the first season of the show.

“We’ve said you’re going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America – nobody wants to wait,” Heller tells TV Guide. “So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it – a little tap on the door.”

Last month it was revealed that the Red Hood – The Joker’s first alias – will appear in the show, so judging from Heller’s latest comments, it’s unlikely we’ll see a fully-formed Joker, at least for the time being.

And if we do, it would of course require a change from the standard Batman mythos, unless David Mazouz is going to don a kid’s fancy dress Batsuit and face down the Red Hood above a vat of chemicals…

Gotham airs on FOX on Monday nights. Follow all of our coverage here.
