Fifty Shades of Grey hits half a billion at the box office

March 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Universal’s adaptation of the E.L. James erotic bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey has shattered numerous box office records since opening last month, and now the Sam Taylor-Johnson directed film has surpassed half a billion at the global box office.

This past weekend saw the Dakota Johnson / Jamie Dornan headlined film push its total gross to $528 million, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2015 to date by a considerable margin. The closest competition comes from Taken 3 on $289.5 million, but of course we’ve got several huge blockbusters incoming over the next few months, so don’t expect it to hold its position for too long.

Fifty Shades of Grey is out in cinemas now and stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Listen to the Flickering Myth Podcast review using the player below and read our two reviews here and here.
