Rumour: Matthew McConaughey wanted for Norman Osborn role in Spider-Man reboot

May 20, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey revealed that he’s “circled” several Marvel and DC scripts, suggesting that he’d be open to jumping in on the comic book movie bandwagon should the right opportunity present itself.

Well, if rumours are to be believed, Sony may have identified a role for the Interstellar star, with The Hashtag Show claiming that McConaughey is in contention to play Peter Parker’s arch-nemesis Norman Osborn in the upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.

Now, there may be nothing more to this than speculation, but assuming Norman Osborn is going to feature prominently in the reboot (and given the short shrift the character got in The Amazing Spider-Man series, it would seem highly, highly likely), then you’d have to imagine Sony will be looking at actor’s of McConaughey’s calibre to play the iconic villain alongside whichever young lead gets cast as Spider-Man. Still, it’s probably best to take this with a pinch of salt for the time being…

Would Matthew McConaughey be a good fit for Norman Osborn? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
