Star Wars: Rogue One screenwriter Gary Whitta writing for Star Wars Rebels

May 27, 2015 by Gavin Logan

He may have left writing duties on the first Star Wars Anthology movie Rogue One – which is being directed by Gareth Edwards – but Gary Whitta isn’t done with the franchise just yet. He’s currently writing an episode of Star Wars: Rebels.

Whitta confirmed the news yesterday by sending out a tweet. We have no idea what episode he’s writing and whether he will be a regular contributor or if this is just a one-off deal but if his tweet is anything to go by then Whitta is obviously a fan of Rebels.

Despite handing the writing of Rogue One over to Chris Weitz (Antz, About A Boy) Whitta’s involvement in the movie and his subsequent job on Rebels might suggest that a crossover may very well be on the cards. It’s been rumoured for some time now that the Rebels story arc will intertwine with the new movies and just last month Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni both revealed that a crossover is possible.

Season 2 of Star Wars: Rebels will premiere on Disney XD on June 20th. Follow all of our coverage here.
