Asa Butterfield reportedly out of the running for Spider-Man, shortlist now down to three names

June 12, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in both April and May, Latino-Review claimed that Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game) had bagged the role of Spider-Man for his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War and the subsequent series of rebooted solo movies.

Well, it seems those reports were premature, as Jeff Sneider is reporting on Meet the Movie Press that Butterfield is now out of contention for the wall-crawler, with the shortlist to succeed Andrew Garfield now said to down to Tom Holland (The Impossible), Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire) and Matthew Lintz (Pixels). Apparently it’s said that Marvel and Sony are disagreeing over the casting, with Marvel keen on Plummer and Sony preferring Holland. Where that leaves Lintz is anyone’s guess…

In other Spidey-related news, posting on his Facebook page, The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has revealed that he auditioned for the role of Spider-Man a couple of months ago.

With filming now underway on Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man reportedly set to join the action next month, it looks like we won’t have long to go before we find out who’ll be donning the mask as Peter Parker.

Thankfully, all the rumours and fake scoops will soon be over.
