Drew Pearce confirms new Ghostbusters movie from the Russo brothers and Ivan Reitman

Typical. You wait over 25 years for a new Ghostbusters movie, and then two come along at once…

Back in March, it was reported that Paul Feig’s all female reboot wasn’t the only Ghostbusters movie in the pipeline from Sony, with Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) said to have been working on a separate movie that could potentially star Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike XXL).

Although Pratt subsequently called the report “bullshit”, screenwriter Drew Pearce has been speaking to MTV to promote the release of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, during which he confirmed that the project is moving ahead, and that he’s completed his work on the script.

“I’ve finished my work on that in the last couple weeks. Obviously it’s top secret, but there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers — who did Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are doing Civil War at the moment — and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it. Obviously I cannot tell you what it is, but hopefully in one year’s time you’ll know!”

Asked about the rumours linking Pratt and Tatum to the cast, Pearce responded: “That’s definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project. Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”

And as for whether it will tie into the universe laid out by Paul Feig next year, Pearce added that: “My personal inclination is to try and make everything occur in the same Ghostbusters universe, because I feel, as a fan, that’s what I would want. Standing here in New York, you just wanna tie it all together. Whether that happens or not we’ll see, but I’ve certainly given them the tools to do that, I hope.”
