Jeremy Renner on Captain Amercia: Civil War and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Infinity War

July 28, 2015 by Gary Collinson

During a promotional interview with Screen Rant to promote this week’s release of his latest film Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Jeremy Renner has spoken briefly about Hawkeye’s role in the next Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War, as well as sharing a few thoughts on how the studio might proceed after Avengers: Infinity War closes out Phase Three.

“[Captain America: Civil War] is more active, a lot of fun stuff happening in that one,” said Renner. “I can’t speak too much for it. They’re still filming that sucker right now. But yeah, there’s a lot of stuff happening in that one physically for me anyway. Then who knows in the future? I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

The topic of conversation then shifted to Phase Four, and whether Marvel will stick with the MCU veterans like Renner and his Avengers co-stars, or bring in new blood in an effort to freshen things up:

“I think it’s probably both. It’s always great to know that you are going have a job next year or something. That’s a fantastic blessing for any actor. It’s nice to be able to continue things and characters that you’ve kind of grown with. But it’s always great to have new faces come in. They’re not big on replacing people and characters so much, which I think is smart, because there’s so many different characters. I think there’s going to be a lot of new faces coming up in that world. I’m happy just to be a part of that big universe.”

Captain America: Civil War is set for release on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th 2016 in the States, with Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) directing a cast that includes Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Don Cheadle (James Rhondes/War Machine), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones) and William Hurt (General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross) alongside new additions Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl (Rush) as Baron Zemo and Tom Holland (The Impossible) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
