Fantastic Four’s Kate Mara to headline Iraq War hero biopic

August 7, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Fantastic Four star Kate Mara is set to portray Iraq war hero Megan Leavey in an upcoming biopic for director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, reports Deadline.

Megan Leavey was a member of a bomb sniffing unit, and was teamed with a dog named Rex. They ended up taking on more than 100 missions together before they were wounded in an explosion in 2006. Leavey was discharged, but Rex continued to serve and she spent many years afterwards trying to adopt him.

Cowperthwaite most recently made the acclaimed documentary Blackfish, and directs the film from a script from Pamela Gray, Annie Mumolo and Jordan Roberts.

Mara’s Fantastic Four is out now in UK and US cinemas, and she will next be seen in Ridley Scott’s The Martian and Captive, opposite David Oyelowo.
