Goosebumps sequel already in development

September 3, 2015 by admin

It’s not even released yet (but will be shown at this year’s London Film Festival), but it looks like Sony already have plans for a sequel to Goosebumps.

Sources for The Tracking Board have confirmed to them that Sony are looking for a new writer to start work on the sequel draft. There’s no word on whether director Rob Letterman will be returning, but stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush are contracted to reprise their roles. As noted by the website, the sequel being fast-tracked will be determined by the success of the first movie when its released in October in the US and February in the UK.

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Goosebumps is set for release on October 16th in the States and on February 5th 2016 in the UK, with Rob Letterman (Gulliver’s Travels)  directing a cast that includes Jack Black (School of Rock), Dylan Minnette (Prisoners), Odeya Rush (We Are What We Are), Amy Ryan (Birdman), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street) and Ryan Lee (Super 8).
