Fan petition calls for George Lucas’ return to the Star Wars saga

January 7, 2016 by Gary Collinson

The Star Wars saga entered a new ‘post-George Lucas’ phase last month with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while many fans were glad to see the back of the bearded one after the Prequel Trilogy, it seems not all were ready to say goodbye to Lucas’ vision.

If you fall into the latter category, then you may want to pop over to Change.org, as a petition has launched calling for Lucas to be brought back into the fold, specifically as director of Star Wars: Episode XI.

“Bring back George Lucas for the Star Wars movies,” reads the petition. “Put the father of the franchise as director of Episode IX. We really want this, please. We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow, but he’s not the right guy to direct Star Wars: Episode IX. George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away…”

So far the petition has attracted a little over 1700 signatures, so it’s probably a good few million away from hitting Disney’s radar…
