Star Wars toys generated over $700 million in sales in 2015

January 23, 2016 by Gary Collinson

This won’t come as much of a surprise given that the franchise has the highest grossing movie of 2015, and pulled in over $1 billion in video game revenue, but research company NPD Group has announced that Star Wars was the hottest movie toy property in the United States last year, generating $700 million in sales.

Disney launched its Star Wars: The Force Awakens toy line back in September with Force Friday, releasing a host of products based upon the blockbuster movie which would go on to outsell tie-in toys from the year’s other big earners Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Minions.

Disney is set to unleash a second wave of The Force Awakens toys in the coming months, which will see an increased focus on the character of Rey, following a backlash over the lack of toys based upon Daisy Ridley’s female protagonist. You can take a look at some action figures and LEGO sets from the next wave of products here.
