Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey Lee to play female lead in The Dark Tower, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey also confirmed

February 19, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) has signed on to play the female lead in director Nikolaj Arcel’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.

The actress will play Tirana, with Deadline stating that: “Readers are questioning the name of the character that Lee plays. That’s what I heard they were calling this major character, and for die hard fans, I can tell you a few character qualities: she’s sexy and dangerous, she has fake human skin and cold snake-like eyes. She doesn’t come in until the seventh volume, apparently, but she’s going to be starring in the first film.”

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that Idris Elba will play the gunslinger Roland Deschain, with Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black.

The Dark Tower is planned as a series of movies, with the first set to focus on King’s first instalment The Gunslinger. King is set to serve as a producer alongside Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins.
