Live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie in development

March 30, 2016 by Gary Collinson

According to Daily Cyzo (via Crunchy Roll), development is underway on a live-action movie adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga series Fullmetal Alchemist, which is being eyed for release in 2017.

The site reports that the film will be directed by Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Ashita no Joe), while the role of Edward Elric will be played by Yamada Ryosuke, a member of the Japanese idol group Hey!Say!JUMP. Filming is slated to get underway in Italy this June.

Fullmetal Alchemist has sold over 64 million copies worldwide, and has spawned two anime series and two full-length anime films, as well as a series of video games.
