Simon Pegg in talks to join Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

March 18, 2016 by Gavin Logan

Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best selling science fiction novel Ready Player One has already cast Tye Sheridan (Mud, X-Men: Apocalypse) as lead Wade Watts aka Parzival, with support from Olivia Cooke (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Now it looks like it’s about to bolster it’s ranks as THR are reporting that Simon Pegg is currently in negotiations to join the cast.

Pegg is in talks to play Orgen Morrow, one of the creators behind the Oasis, the 80’s inspired virtual reality world in which players can live out their fantasies.

Set in the year 2044, the Oasis has become the preferred living environment for humans. The plot revolves around teenager Wade Watts, who becomes the leading participant in a worldwide treasure hunt inside the Oasis after it’s creator dies. Watts must solve intricate clues and riddles to move on and “level up”, however he’s not the only one who wants to win.

Ernest Cline wrote the adapted screenplay of his 2011 novel with help from Zak Penn, who wrote the original script for Last Action Hero and has since worked on various X-Men movies and Marvel projects.

Filming is due to start in June.
