Edge of Tomorrow 2 finds its screenwriters

April 9, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow are pressing ahead with their plans for a follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow, with Deadline reporting that in-demand screenwriters Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Race, The Gray Man) have signed on to pen the script for the sci-fi sequel.

Reports earlier this week suggested that Christopher McQuarrie (screenwriter on the first movie) would be helming the sequel, but McQuarrie has taken to Twitter to confirm that Doug Liman will once again be back in the director’s chair, reuniting with star Tom Cruise. As yet, there’s been no official word about whether co-star Emily Blunt will return.

Liman was set to shoot the X-Men spinoff Gambit prior to its delay, and will now focus his attention on The Wall for Amazon Studios, so it’s unclear how and when Edge of Tomorrow 2 will fit into his schedule.
