Jackie Earle Haley joins The Dark Tower and The Tick

April 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With production Sony and Media Rights Capital’s The Dark Tower adaptation now underway, it has been announced that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) has signed on to play the character of Richard Sayre in the Stephen King adaptation.

Sayre did not appear until the fifth book of King’s series, Wolves of the Calla, which confirms that the movie won’t be a straight up adaptation of The Gunslinger and will instead mix up the structure of the source material.

The Dark Tower is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and sees Haley joining a cast that includes Idris Elba (Luther) as Roland the Gunslinger, Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) as the Man in Black, Tom Taylor (Doctor Foster) as Jake Chambers and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Tirana.

Meanwhile, Haley – who will soon be seen Odin Quincannon is AMC’s Preacher – has also landed himself another recurring TV role, with the actor joining the upcoming reboot of The Tick, where he’ll play the super villain The Terror, “our world’s epitome of the criminal mastermind, a hooded ancient villain barking at his minions whose incredible will power and tenacity have powered an underworld syndicate for decades.”
