James McAvoy open to more X-Men films after X-Men: Apocalypse

April 8, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Not only will X-Men: Apocalypse mark the end of a “trilogy” of films based around the X-Men: First Class cast, but it will also see Fox’s contracts with the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult expiring.

Having previously suggested that Apocalypse would be her final outing as Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence recently changed her tune, stating that she is “dying to come back” for more X-Men movies.

Speaking to L’Internaute (via Comic Book), Lawrence’s co-star James McAvoy has expressed his hope that the actress does decide to return for more mutant adventures, as well as revealing that he’s happy to extend his stay in the X-Men universe, if Fox wants him back.

“I’ve heard… people have said she’s not into it, stuff like that,” states McAvoy. “She’s always said to me that she would think about it. So yeah, that sounds great. I hope she does, because I love working with Jennifer. You know, we’ve been like an extended sort of family, in a weird way, for six or seven years now. Every two years, we get back together and hang out making a movie, then in six months’ time or a year’s time, we all go on the road promoting it, and we see each other again. I’d be really said not to see her every couple of years. [If] Fox wants me to, I’ll do more.”

Recent rumours have suggested that McAvoy’s Professor Xavier will feature in the New Mutants movie from Josh Boone, although a Fox representative reportedly dismissed the reports as speculation.

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
