George R.R. Martin releases an excerpt from The Winds of Winter

May 12, 2016 by Kieran Fisher

A Song of Ice & Fire author George R.R. Martin has given fans a taste of what’s in store in his long-awaited novel The Winds of Winter by releasing a chapter via his website (which you can read it here).  The chapter is being touted as a dig at the television show – which has deviated somewhat from the original source material – as it features characters who have been given the axe in episodes of the show.

Martin has been vocal about the differences between the book and the television show in the past, seemingly understanding that both mediums require a different approach in order to be the best entertainment they can be, although far from happy about his own creative input being somewhat meaningless.  While this shouldn’t hinder the popularity of either, it is understandable why Martin might be a little dissatisfied with how the characters he created have been treated on screen.

That being said, fans of the book will be happy to get a taster of what’s sure to be another excellent book in the hugely popular acclaimed series.  Even if this is Martin’s way of sticking it to the man, at least it gives fans of both different stories to enjoy and compare.  That must be worth something, right?
