SPOILER: Katherine Waterston’s Alien: Covenant character revealed

June 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Warning. Minor spoilers for Alien: Covenant follow…

A couple of weeks ago we got our first official glimpse of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel / Alien prequel Alien: Covenant with the release of a behind-the-scenes image featuring Katherine Waterston, and now a rumour has emerged which claims to give us one big detail about the Inherent Vice star’s character.

According to The Playlist, “Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley’s mother in Alien: Covenant, which is an amazing twist and true to Scott’s promise that the post-Prometheus prequels will eventually lead right up to the first Alien movie. But it should be noted that Waterston isn’t the lead of the movie, and it’s an ensemble piece like Prometheus.”

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is set for release on August 4th, 2017. Michael Fassbender reprises his role from Prometheus alongside new additions Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demian Bichir (A Better Life),  Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Benjamin Rigby (That’s Not Me) and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills).
